Meghan & Sam got married!!!!!!!!!!!!

So last Saturday Meghan & Sam finally got married! Everyone who knows Meghan knows that she has been planning this event for years...literally. Meghan wanted theirs to be the prettiest wedding, and I have to say - she totally nailed it! As an event planner at Dover Rent All Tents & Events, Meghan is very familiar with wedding planning and had been taking notes & making plans for quite some time. The tents were absolutely fanTAStic, the flowers were impeccable, the lighting was some of the most exquisite that I have ever seen (a special shout out to my husband Mark who climbed the oh so tall ladders to set up the beautiful lights!!) ...every last detail was picture perfect, including Meghan & Sam. The guests dined on food provided by one of my very favorite caterers - Magnolia Catering (http://www.magnoliacaterers.com/). Jimmy & Julie always serve the best of the best. Julie also made the amazing wedding cake - which I have to say...was one of the best that I have ever tasted or seen (except of course for the one that she made for my wedding oh so long ago). Seriously, I can't say enough about their yummy offerings.

Meghan & Sam...you both looked absolutely wonderful. Congrats on pulling off such a beautiful event. We all wish you a lifetime of happiness. Enjoy Costa Rica and I will see you very soon.

I have just had a wonderful wedding season this year and have met some of the nicest people...Kathleen & Aaron being no exception! Kathleen & Aaron got married on 10-17, which happened to be one of the rainiest days in recent memory. If the old adage about raindrops symbolizing happy marriage days is true, Kathleen & Aaron will be the happiest couple around! We had grand plans of taking their bridal portraits at a park on the way from the church to the reception, but very early on it was clear that Mother Nature had other plans. We did all of our formal shots in the church but then were delighted to see that there was a teeeeeeny tiiiny break in the rain that enabled us to pop outside the church to take a few outdoor shots. We took some beautiful traditional shots...and then my bride & grooms playful personalities came out & we took some....er....not so traditional shots. I predict a lifetime of fun in the Simon household!

The day was a total success. Kathleen & Aaron had a beautiful wedding ceremony & a super fun reception that I have no doubt they will happily reminisce about for the rest of their lives. Your proofs are in guys - I will see you soon!

Whew - it's been a super busy wedding season here at Acorn Photography! Blogging had to take a back seat for a few weeks while I worked hard making sure that my brides had their proofs quickly.

It's been nearly a year since we met, but 3 weeks ago I finally shot the fantastic wedding of Vanessa & Kurt at the Virden Center in Lewes. I knew when I met them that it was going to be a fun day, but I have to say, Vanessa was a great bride...one of the most calm, down to earth brides that I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Her pleasant attitude was the talk of all of the wedding professionals - Kudos to you Vanessa for being so wonderful. I have no doubt that you & Kurt will live happily ever after.

Here is the part where I would normally say "Your proofs are IN - I'll be seeing you very soon. ", but I would be remiss if I didn't mention the cookies. Ahhhh, the cookies. Vanessa's super sweet mom made cookies for everyone at the reception. I was so impressed, I have never seen anything quite like it. Vanessa's mother made...I think the count was 140 DOZEN cookies for the wedding guests to enjoy & take home. I'm not talking regular ole' chocolate chip cookies here...she had such exquisite & beautiful cookies...tremendous varieties ~ she put most bakeries to shame. She even shared a recipe for my personal favorites with me, I can't wait to make them.

Thanks Vanessa, Kurt & your families for a wonderful day.

DelaWish!

Every year a local radio station, Eagle 97.7, does a week long on-air benefit for 5 worthy causes. This year, I was honored to donate my time & expertise to DelaWish. Through DelaWish I was able to meet Jennifer & her lovely family. Jennifer is a breast cancer survivor, a cause very close to my heart. Jennifer was only 25 and had just had her 2nd child when she discovered that she had breast cancer. Obviously the past few years for Jennifer & her family have been very trying times. Jennifer is a fighter that has battled her cancer with both chemotherapy & surgeries...and won. Today Jennifer is an inspirational & vibrant, cancer free wife & mother of 3 gorgeous little boys. I hope you enjoy your pictures Jennifer. My very favorite assistant Wanda & I very much enjoyed spending time with you & your family...and we wish you all a very bright & very happy future!

"Beth,
It gave me a chill looking at your blog and the pictures! Delawish is such a wonderful thing and I am so glad you were a part of it for Jennifer. So many people donate and go through the motions, but you truly became a "part" of the family this year. Thank you for taking the time to make this a something special for Jennifer and her family. We are forever grateful!

Thank you so much Beth for doing our portraits. They are wonderful! You have truly captured my family in all their handsomeness! You really do capture families as they are, without the need of studios and props. I love how you use real places and environment as your back drop. Thank you , again and again for doing this for us! And to Steve and all those at 97.7 thank YOU for including me and my family in this year's Delawish!
Sincerely Jennifer

Toni, as a mother myself I can only imagine (thankfully!) how difficult it must be to see your baby so sick. I just feel so honored to have been able to play a part in bringing tears of joy to your eyes. Thank you so much for your kind words. ~ Beth

Michelle & David got married!

So last weekend found me back at one of my favorite spots, Indian River Life Saving Station for the wedding of Michelle & David. I had spent some time with them a few weeks before doing their engagement pictures, so I knew it was going to be a fun day. I am starting to feel like a broken record this year...seems I am always blogging about a beach wedding that came "this close" to being rained out but ended up going off without a hitch. Well...you guessed it - same story again! As on Friday all of the vendors were on alert that "Plan B" might be in effect; the call would be made at 9am on Saturday. On Saturday morning the weather still looked a bit iffy, but Mother Nature cooperated and the beach wedding that Michelle & David have been planning was ON! It ended up being a lovely day; everything was perfect, right down to the awesome sunset & some of the prettiest evening clouds I have ever seen. Michelle, David & their guests enjoyed a wonderful meal prepared by Blue Moon Catering, danced the night away to a wonderful Father/Son band (whose name I have to get because everyone really enjoyed them) and the professional sand castle was a huge hit too!

Enjoy Jamaica Michelle & David! Your images are all posted on your private, online gallery - just waiting for you to get back!

Nicole & George!

I found myself upstate for Nicole & George's wedding a few weeks ago. I have been spending so much time at the beach that it felt strange driving north! I'm glad I did though, because it was a super fun night. I mean really...is there any other way to describe the wedding of a couple who had their 1st dance as husband & wife wearing Shreck ears?? Nicole & George know how to party, and they hired Mike Warren from "Just Kidding Around", one of my favorite local DJ's to rock their big party.

It rained all day, so that put a damper on the outdoor shots that Nicole was hoping for, but we managed to squeeze in a few. Despite the rain, the wedding & the reception were both a smashing success, and I think that Nicole & George had the time of their lives.

Your proofs are already in Nicole, so I'll be seeing you very soon!

Emily & Brandon!!

Last Saturday took me back to the beach area, to the Lewes Yacht Club to be precise. Emily & Brandon have been planning their perfect beach wedding for quite some time now, and I have to say that all of their efforts paid off big! Earlier in the week the father of the bride had been telling a friend to keep their fingers crossed for good weather (the forecast was looking quite iffy) & the friend told him about an old tradition that they had employed in the past with much success. The old wives tale was to bury a bottle of whiskey near the ceremony site to insure great weather for your wedding day. Not wanting to leave any stone unturned, Emily & Brandon went out on the beach and buried their bottle, marking the spot with a rock. We'll may never know WHY, but they DID end up having a beautiful, low humidity sunny day, and a perfect sunset to segway into the evening!

It was a pleasure to work in conjunction with Emilys mom Barbara (thanks for the lovely center piece!!), Make My Day Event Planning & The Funsters. I think that Emily & Brandon had the wedding that they had been dreaming of, complete with their sparkler waving guests escorting them across the street for their surprise boat exit.

Enjoy your honeymoon guys...your proofs will be in very soon.

What a difference a day makes! Saturday was dark & stormy (but beautiful for a wedding none the less!), while Sunday was a gorgeous, low humidity day featuring a brilliant blue sky & an abundance of fluffy white clouds! A perfect day for some beachy engagement pictures!

I will be shooting Michelle & Davids wedding in October - back at one of my favorite places, The Indian River Life Saving Station. Can't wait - it's going to be a GREAT day!

Amanda & Jason at Indian River!

YIKES!! So...the weather that the Delaware beach area had on Saturday was not exactly what most brides hope for as they plan their perfect beach wedding, but Amanda & Jason totally rocked it! On Friday we were all preparing to put "Plan B" into motion. I could hear the disappointment in Amanda's voice when I spoke to her late Friday...but I could also hear some hope - apparently Amanda is not a quitter. The final decision was made only 4 hours before the beach ceremony was to take place...the wedding in the sand was on!
So, with umbrellas in hand & lots of prayers said, we all headed out the the beach in spite of the ominous dark clouds. The beach at Indian River is sporting a new look thanks to the last few storms we have had (sometimes Mother Nature giveth & sometimes she taketh away! ) but I have to say...with the contrasty clouds in the sky and the huge crashing waves behind them, I do believe that Amanda & Jason had one of the prettiest wedding ceremonies ever!
After the ceremony was over & most of the formal portraits were done, the 3 of us walked a little bit on the beach while we shot their bridal portraits. Amanda, being an avid collector, noticed right away that the storm surf had drug in lots of beautiful shells...we even found a starfish! I imagine many of the treasures Amanda & Jason picked up on their wedding day will decorate the Clemens household for many years to come.
I spent a wonderful evening with Mandy & Jason's warm family & friends (a special shout out to Uncle Bob, who I just adored) - they were all having so much fun that they made it easy to take TONS of great pictures.
Enjoy your Jamaican honeymoon Mr. & Mrs. Clemens, and your proofs will be ready VERY soon!!
Please feel free to leave a comment here for me!

Emily!!

****CLICK ON PICTURE TO ENLARGE****
I always love working with seniors, and Emily was certainly no exception! Emily lives out of state and had originally contacted a photographer in her area to do her senior pictures. When she mentioned that she might like some beach pictures, the photographer said that he could "make it look like" she was at the beach. Emily, being the smart girl that she is declined and called me for a real beach session! Emily is a swimmer (Go Red Land!) and chose to have her swim gear prominent in some of her pictures.
Keep swimming Emily, and have a wonderful senior year! Remember to keep the beach in mind when you get married! ;)

(Comment from Margie - mother of Emily)
Emily wanted her senior pictures taken at one of her favorite spots-the beach. After talking to several photographers in the area who didn't quite get what we were looking for, we found Beth! Emily's pictures are so unique and beautiful. Beth knew the perfect spot for the pictures, the perfect time of day to get the most dramatic lighting, and the perfect poses! Our friends and family love the pictures as much as we do. It was well worth the four hour drive! Thanks, Beth!

Tim & Debbie...

**PLEASE CLICK ON PICTURE TO ENLARGE
I found myself in St. Michaels again a few days ago ~ this time at Folly's Cove with Tim & Debbie. I just loved both Tim & Debbie...they were both so personable & nice - it felt like we had known each other forever...and Folly's Cove was a very scenic place to shoot their relaxed, intimate wedding. It was a gorgeous June day, at a gorgeous place, with wonderful people who are obviously very much in love... the kind of day that makes me grateful to be a wedding photographer on the eastern shore. Thanks for a lovely day Tim & Debbie!

Garden thus far...

The garden is doing well...we cut our first green beans this morning...they were cooking about 10 minutes after they were cut off of the plant and boy were they yummy! We were probably the only family on the block who had greeen beans for breakfast, but hey - we're a little different. :) Our outdoor cat Steve (or Big Steve as my husband likes to call him) is earning his keep by keeping bunnies & other critters out of the garden. Good job Steve!

Beth, David & Shane at The Oaks...

**********Please click on image to enlarge.... **********
Yesterday I was invited to shoot the intimate wedding of Beth, David & Shane. I know that usually there are only a bride & groom getting married, but yesterday Beth & David became husband & wife, and Beth, David & Shane officially became a family. 4 year old Shane is a doll, and since he pretty much stole the show I thought it only fair to include him in my blog. He was a very attentive (ok, not really, but he sure was CUTE!) best man, and was the picture of happiness as he helped give his mom to be united in marriage.

It was a very touching ceremony for me for so many reasons (just look at the pictures of them looking at each other during the ceremony!). Beth, David & their parents were all so gracious & warm, and the ceremony was so touching - especially the part where the bride & groom presented young Shane with an Oak sapling that they explained was to plant in their front yard so they could watch it grow into a big tree as they grew as a happy family. What a happy coincidence that they got married at "The Oaks" and hired "Acorn Photography" to document their special day!

As the mom of a young son, watching Davids mom wipe away tears of joy during the ceremony was enough to put a big lump in my throat even before Cantor Jan Morrison recited the Apache Wedding Blessing, which was read at my own wedding years ago. It was a very beautiful day, and I feel special for sharing it. Thank you Beth & David for allowing me to share your special day. Your proofs are already online - check your e-mail for the password, and...

We hired Acorn Photography after getting a recommendation and viewing Beth's photographs on her website. We were so happy with the job Beth did. She was such a professional - prompt, organized, and willing to take all different types of shots. We feel we got so much more than we could have expected from any photographer... that is beacuse Beth was so personable and you could feel the enjoyment she gets from taking pictures. It was such a pleasure working with her and we feel so lucky to have found her!!!!
Thank you so much Beth!! You & your entire family were truly a pleasure to work with ~ I loved being a part of your special day. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed your Acorn Photography experience so much.
